| The Cairnoodle is a hybrid mix of two small breeds, the Cairn Terrier and the Miniature Poodle. | The Cairn is an ancient breed of Scotch Terrier that was only developed as a separate breed in the 19th century and is distinguished from its other Scotch Terrier brethren by its coat color. The Cairn Terrier's ancestor, the Scotch Terrier, was first described in 55 BC by the Romans, who identified the small dogs as agile hunters who went to ground after their quarry. The Romans called these dogs Terrarii, which is Latin for earth workers. For several centuries, the Terrier group lived and thrived as land dogs in Scotland and England, also making their way to France and parts of Germany. By the 1900s, the Cairn Terrier was firmly established as the small wire-haired Terrier of the Skye group in various colors, accepting white, which was designated for its cousin breed, the West Highland Terrier. The Cairn is often confused with the Scottish Terrier, but the Scottie has a more diverse genetic make-up, having a large gene pool history while the Cairn Terrier was restricted to the Isle of Skye. The Cairn takes its name from the stone monuments of the same name that the little Terrier was known to hunt. | ||

| The Poodle is a favorite breed that comes in three sizes: toy, miniature and standard. The Poodle is a German dog whose name is derived from the German pudel, indicating this dog's love of wading in puddles. Although the Poodle is of German origin, the breed was officially developed in France during the 15th and 16th centuries. Toy and miniature varieties soon followed the standard. The Poodle was recognized by the American Kennel Club in 1886, but did not become popular in the USA until after the Second World War. After the Second World War, the Poodle gained popularity at the top and remained there for 20 years. Today, the Poodle is still a popular breed and is an increasingly popular choice for hybrid dogs. | ||

| The Cairnoodle is a small hybrid between the Cairn Terrier and the Miniature Poodle. Your Cairnoodle is a small dog measuring between 25 and 38 centimeters and weighing no more than 9.5 kilos. The Cairnoodle has a broad head and large, expressive black eyes. The nose is proportionate to the muzzle, which is of medium length and is black and round. A Cairnoodle's body is sturdy and compact, and this little dog is strong and capable of long hours of play. Cairnoodles can resemble the Cairn Terrier or Poodle, and have medium-to-high energy with moderate intensity requirements. This mix requires daily exercise of moderate intensity. They are intelligent dogs, but the Cairn Terrier parent has added elements of independence and stubbornness, making the Cairnoodle a little more difficult to train if it resembles the Cairn Terrier. The Poodle's high intelligence also means that the Cairnoodle needs plenty of mental stimulation to prevent bad behavior from developing. |

This hybrid is affectionate and loyal to its family, including children, and is a moderately sensitive dog that won't tolerate being left alone for long. The Cairnoodle is excellent with children, but it is a small dog and children should respect the dog's size and not engage in rough play. As far as strangers are concerned, the Cairnoodle is friendly and adapts well to other dogs and pets. The Poodle parent's energy levels are lower than those of the Cairn Terrier. However, daily exercise is necessary and equally essential to stimulate the Cairnoodle's spirit. The Cairnoodle needs moderate-intensity exercise and is considered a playful dog. This hybrid doesn't need large spaces to run around, but a small backyard is ideal. The Cairn Terrier is known for digging and foraging, and the Poodle's high intelligence needs require proper exercise and mental stimulation to prevent your Cairnoodle from destructive behavior. Daily play and exercise also strengthen your bond and keep the Cairnoodle's mind properly stimulated. The Cairnoodle is a versatile dog capable of living quite well in any climate. |
Maintenance of the Cairnoodle |
| The Cairnoodle is a hypoallergenic dog thanks to its Poodle parent, and throws away very little. The Cairn Terrier is a moderate excreter, and if the hybrid more closely resembles the Cairn Terrier, excretion may increase. The medium to long hair of the Cairnoodle requires daily brushing to avoid tangles and matting. Regular ear cleaning with a vet-approved solution will help prevent ear infections in your Cairnoodle, and brushing your dog's teeth at least twice a week to prevent dental disease and keep his mouth clean. The Cairnoodle doesn't drool much at all and keeps its coat and teeth clean of any "doggy" odors that might arise, although this hybrid is not known to smell. |
