Anyone who has ever been to Andalusia may have seen these strange dogs on the street of a white village or somewhere in the mountains of the provinces of Cadiz and Malaga. It's a typical Andalusian breed that's not officially recognized, but no less interesting to take a closer look at. Meet the Andalusian Podenco Maneto.

The Maneto dog breed from Andalusia (southern Spain) is little known outside the country. Due to its particular physical characteristics, this dog is used exclusively for hunting, especially rabbit hunting. The Maneto is perfectly suited to the low mountains of the Mediterranean, with their mulberry trees, streams and narrow ravines.

One of the hallmarks of the hunt is the dog's perseverance in pursuing its prey, in this case rabbits. With its short limbs, the Maneto is extremely well suited to moving around areas with dense vegetation and hard-to-reach places. The Maneto breed has always been closely associated with rabbit hunting, particularly in the mountains where dense vegetation made it impossible to use other native Andalusian breeds. The breed is also well suited to hunting quail and partridge, or retrieving ducks from water. It is very good at retrieving in mountainous terrain, reedbeds and bushy areas.

Maneto is a variety from southern Andalusia, more precisely from the province of Cadiz and the border area of the provinces of Cadiz and Malaga. The greatest concentration can be found around Gibraltar. The breed is derived from the medium-sized Podenco Andaluz and is probably caused by a mutation of the dwarf character with the typical physique as a result.

A small dog, low to the ground, with a very long, compact body and short legs in relation to the torso. Strong, muscular, stocky structure. Height at withers: 35 to 37 cm.

The Maneto is a modest dog with a strong temperament and great sense of ownership. It also has a dominant character in relation to its peers and shows this characteristic in terms of territory from an early age. In its relationship with humans, it enjoys company and attention. At the same time, it is very independent and recognizes only one owner.

The Maneto is an excellent dog for hunting by following a trail, and also a very good companion animal. It can tolerate fairly cold and very good temperatures. It is a dog of great perseverance and endurance.

He is wary of strangers and is a good guardian when his owner is away. His reaction to unpredictable situations is very intelligent and he will always prefer the most logical reaction. He has an excellent memory and can understand a great deal of information. His psychological balance is very good and natural.
