The Dakota Shepherd is a developing breed that has yet to show any signs of aggression or bad behavior. They are a loyal, loving breed that is highly intelligent and easily trained. They can be used as sheepdogs, working dogs or agility dogs. They are gentle and enjoy spending time with children. Also very adaptable, the Dakotah Shepherd is just as comfortable in a garden as on a ranch or farm. They love to work, but they also love to get out and play with their families. The breed is not hyper or yappy, and they are generally a calm and quiet dog. They will alert their family to intruders, but will not attack.

There are no reported health problems or concerns for the Dakotah Shepherd. This breed generally lives well into their teens.

The Dakotah Shepherd has a medium-length coat that doesn't need clipping. They are moderate shedders during the season.

The Dakotah Shepherd is not suited to living in a small house or apartment. They should have a minimum of one medium-sized yard. This breed likes to go on a regular walk.

Height at withers : 43 to 54 centimeters, weight 16 to 23 kilos.
