The Liangshan Dog is a medium-sized Chinese hound originating from Sichuan. Renowned for its excellent sense of smell, stamina, and ferocity when hunting wild boar in mountainous terrain, it is characterized by its short coat (black on the head, various colors elsewhere), triangular, drooping ears, and a bushy tail curled over its back.

Prized by hunters, it is tenacious, versatile, and possesses a keen survival instinct. Some individuals have distinctive black and blue markings on their tongues. The Liangshan Dog is an intelligent and robust breed, with exceptional stamina and a keen sense of smell that allow it to hunt a wide variety of prey, both small and large.

The Liangshan Dog originates from the mountains of Sichuan Province in southwestern China. Experts believe the Yi people brought this breed with them when they migrated to the region several centuries ago.

Called Hushan dogs by the locals, Liangshan dogs are excellent hunters, possessing impressive stamina and a keen sense of smell. In Liangshan, they are used for hunting, herding, and guarding. However, many Liangshan dogs live freely and are generally self-sufficient. Their coat is short and glossy.

The hair on their head is black, while the rest of their body is black mixed with shades of red and yellow. Some Liangshans have ringed hair, gray at the roots, yellowish in the middle, and black at the tips. Distinguishing features of this breed include triangular, drooping ears, deep brown eyes, and a bushy tail that curls over their back. Some Liangshans have blue-black markings on their tongues.

Liangshan dogs are courageous, possess an excellent survival instinct, and are very tenacious. They can hunt a variety of animals, including bear, fox, wild boar, otter, and pheasant. Hunters appreciate their stamina and versatility.

These dogs thrive on a high-quality diet appropriate for their age: puppy, adult, and senior. To maintain your dog at a healthy weight, measure their portions to avoid overfeeding and monitor the amount of treats you give them. As a general rule, treats should not exceed 10% of their daily caloric intake.
