The otitis

The presence of hair on the inside of the ear creates a closed environment that favors the development of bacteria, particularly in dogs with floppy ears.

These hairs also allow the spikes of certain grasses to rise up into the auditory canal; if they reach the eardrum, they can pierce it.

To prevent these disorders, good hygiene is essential:

Keep the hairs in the auricle clean, and pluck the hairs at the entrance to the ear canal. Never clean the canal itself, as a cotton bud will only compress the earwax even further.

Regularly add boric acid to the ear canal to limit fermentation.

In the car, don't allow your dog to stick his head out of the window.

After swimming, wipe the inside of the ears with a towel.

Caution: scratching and shaking your dog's head can burst a vessel in the auricle, creating an ohematoma that will require surgery.
