In tribute to

To my dear Cléo

Thanks to

Nathalie

We adopted you on Saturday, August 30, 2003.

You'd already been adopted 7 years before, so you'd been abandoned twice too.

As soon as I saw you, I fell in love with you and knew we were meant to be together.

My Cléo, you were my daughter and you never let me down.

You were so beautiful and still young, 10 years old when life decided you'd stayed long enough on this earth where there's too much horror.

And so, on Friday April 8, 2005, I had to make one of the hardest decisions of my life, not to let you suffer any longer and to accept your departure for dog heaven.

The vet was really perfect, he did everything he could to make sure you went gently, and I stayed by your side right to the end.

I couldn't have done otherwise for you, my faithful companion.

You know, we did everything we could to save you, but this inexplicable paralysis was something we didn't know what to do about.

To think that it lasted 3 weeks, at first you could hardly walk and by the end you could barely drag yourself, I couldn't bear to see you suffer like that.

I'll never forget the sweet, loving look on your face when you saw us, or the sad look on your face when you realized you could no longer run or play with children.

My Cléo, my friend, if you see me now writing these lines, you can see how much I still suffer from your departure.

For a long time, I used to cry when I saw a Labrador, but I've never seen one as beautiful as you.

When I went to the SPA, some time later I didn't have the courage to take on a Labrador again, so I adopted Roucky, a baby Cocker Spaniel.

A few days ago, we got Lucky, a little Yorkshire-type dog who must have been abandoned; he's so skinny and needs so much love that he can't stand to be alone for a second.

In any case, know my Cléo that no matter where you are, you will not be forgotten and no one will replace you in our hearts.

Your family who will always love you.
