| When I came to pick you up, 14 1/2 years ago, you were eating cornflakes, we weren't happy with you because you didn't want to go running every day for hours and hours to do fitness. You were just 3 months old. Then I noticed you were crawling down the stairs. I went to the vet and he diagnosed dysplasia. You were still a bit fragile. But I was careful not to let you catch a cold, so as not to aggravate your rheumatism. Of course, you were on medication and the vet said you had very muscular thighs, which was good. You liked to run around with the cats the neighbors had forgotten about. It was funny to see such complicity. They would jump over your back and you thought it was funny. For the past 3 years, you'd had a lot of problems. Dysplasia meant that you didn't want to go for walks anymore, just to sit quietly in the garden. And then you became incontinent. Some people didn't understand that I'd made you a pair of Pampers pants, which made them smile. But that didn't stop you from running around the house with the cats. Slowly you began to see less and less, your breath was sometimes rapid, you hardly ate at all, and then pulmonary edema set in. I wish you'd fallen asleep and never woken up again, so I wouldn't have had to make that final decision. For me, it was a gesture of love towards you. Sometimes you couldn't hear me because you were deaf, but when I was in front of you, it was a party. You breathed your last in my arms. You're resting in the garden. Every day I come to say hello. Time will pass, but you'll always be in my thoughts and in my heart. I miss you so much. I love you so much. |
