In tribute to

Coplan, 15 years with you

Thanks to

Your mistress, Diane

30/01/1988...

You were barely 2 1/2 months old when I first saw you behind that fence, among all those dogs.

You, the little black mongrel (already abandoned by your previous owners), melted my heart in a single glance.

From then on, we never left each other's side.

I took you everywhere, you were my guardian angel.

For all those long years, you were incredibly loyal and kind to everyone.

Not the slightest hint of malice towards humans or animals.

And even when I brought home abandoned or mistreated dogs, cats and rabbits, you never showed any aggression, and your love for me was intact, because you knew that I loved you from the depths of my heart, and that at the same time I couldn't close my eyes to these unfortunate people.

We were accomplices, my Coplan, and most of the time all it took was a glance for us to understand each other.

Your presence filled me with joy, and I never saw you grow old either.

I never imagined for a moment that we would part.

Then, in January 2002, an ultrasound scan revealed a bladder tumour.

The treatments worked well for a few months, and although you weren't suffering, your general condition was nevertheless weakening.

I took you to the sea in August, as I did every year, not knowing then that it would be the last time.

On 03/12/2002, a new ultrasound and a diagnosis that fell like a knife: nothing could be done surgically, given the extent and your advanced age.

I prayed to our star, my Coplan, wishing with all my heart that a miracle would happen and that you would regain your strength.

Christmas was approaching and I wanted you close to me.

You were there on the 24th, and that was my greatest gift!

I think you drew from deep inside yourself the energy we needed to stay together as long as possible.

And then, on the evening of 27/12, I saw and read in your eyes that you couldn't take it anymore, and I knew it was my turn to help you.

Coquine, the cat, lay beside you all night...

I'm sure she knew.

Saturday 28/12/02, Bernard, whom you knew well, came to the house.

You lay down gently in your basket, confident and serene.

You turned your head towards me and at that moment I felt something extraordinary: I think you were saying THANK YOU!

Then you fell asleep peacefully under the effect of the product that was supposed to set you free.

Today, you rest in your familiar garden, surrounded by those who had left us before.

Thank you, Coplan, for your infinite love.

Thank you for giving me so often the strength to fight and to believe in life.

Thank you for sharing these 15 years without ever complaining.

Thank you for being this wonderful dog.

When the time comes, I know we'll meet again, and in the meantime, you'll continue to watch over me from above.

You'll always be in my thoughts and in my heart.

I LOVE YOU
