Peterbald

Translation

Origin
The Peterbald is a breed of cat that originated in Russia.
This cat is characterized by its hairless coat.

A brief historical overview

This young breed was created in St. Petersburg in 1994. It is the result of an experimental cross between a Donskoy (or Don Sphinx) and an Oriental shorthair. The gene responsible for the absence of hair in the Don Sphynx being dominant, it was combined with the Oriental's typical physique.
The first two litters produced four kittens: Mandarin iz Murino, Muscat iz Murino, Nejenka iz Murino and Nocturne iz Murinoqui. These were the first representatives of the breed.
The breed was recognized in 1996 by the Russian Cat Federation. At the same time, the standard was established. A year later, The International Cat Association (TICA) recognized the breed, followed by the World Cat Federation in 2003.
Since then, breeders have devoted themselves to maintaining the typical appearance of Oriental and Siamese cats.

Behavior / characteristics

Peterbalds are described as temperate and peaceful, yet energetic and curious.
Like Siamese and Orientals, they can't stand solitude and need a lot of attention. They also enjoy the company of other cats, and generally get on well with other animals and children. However, these character traits are entirely individual and depend above all on the history of each cat, whatever its breed.
