The breeders responsible for its development are Michael and Marie Bloodgood of Mountain View Kennels, from which the dog takes its name. The breeders were looking for a more focused dog, one that was easier to handle than many of the hounds of the day. Although the word "cur" denotes a dog of unknown origin, it hardly refers to the Mountain View Cur, which has a very definite origin. So a movement began among breeders and dog lovers to change the name of this dog. The Mountain View Cur is the accomplished hunter who will work diligently for hours on the trail in all weathers, to please his master. Appearance of the Mountain View Cur

Although the Mountain View Cur was developed directly from the original Mountain Cur, their appearance differs greatly from that of their parent breed. The typical Mountain View Cur looks like a dog, with a slightly domed head, thick muzzle and wide-set eyes. These deep black eyes are gentle in expression and convey a wealth of emotion. This attractive dog has a pleasing conformation that is well muscled with a straight back, deep chest and thick neck. Their legs are straight and strong, proving that this dog is quick on its cat feet. At birth, Mountain View Cur puppies are usually born without dewclaws, and those born with them have them removed almost immediately. They have another characteristic and that's the natural short tail they're born with. Those with longer tails normally docked them a few days after birth.
