A brief presentation of the Mountain View Cur
The Mountain View Cur is a rare dog that is a very healthy breed and suffers from few health problems. They have an adorable temperament and adore children. Patient and loyal, they will play lovingly with children and are known to protect them. This breed is highly intelligent and was developed as a hunting dog, which could stalk small prey such as raccoons and squirrels in the trees. But they were also used for larger game such as bears, cats and wild boar. They have incredible scenting ability and a rare sense of self-control that is appreciated by owners. No wonder police have shown great interest in using this dog for search and rescue or to locate hidden drugs. The Mountain View Cur is a dog that lives to please its master. They are devoted and affectionate, and are quick and easy to train. This dog is not suited to apartment living; they need at least a home with a secure garden, or even better, a country lifestyle. Handsome in appearance and temperament, the Mountain View Cur is a dog prized by all the privileged to own it.

History of the Mountain View Cur
The Mountain View Cur is a new breed of dog developed in the 1980s. The breeders responsible for its development are Michael and Marie Bloodgood of Mountain View Kennels, from which the dog takes its name. The breeders were looking for a more focused dog, one that was easier to handle than many of the hounds of the day. Although the word "cur" denotes a dog of unknown origin, it hardly refers to the Mountain View Cur, which has a very definite origin. So a movement began among breeders and dog lovers to change the name of this dog. The Mountain View Cur is the accomplished hunter who will work diligently for hours on the trail in all weathers, to please his master. If this dog is not to be used as a hunter, owners who enjoy outdoor activities and sport will keep him happy. This naturally beautiful dog is a healthy breed, and at present there are no genetic diseases associated with the breed. Years of careful, selective breeding have created this exceptional dog. Thanks to the efforts of the Bloodgood family, the Mountain View Cur is recognized as a distinct and unique breed and will be maintained as such. Their motto has always been to produce for quality not quantity, on ability not myth. And they've fought to maintain that reputation. There's a waiting list for this dog, so getting one may take a while, but it's worth it.

Appearance of the Mountain View Cur
Although the Mountain View Cur was developed directly from the original Mountain Cur, their appearance differs greatly from that of their parent breed. The typical Mountain View Cur looks like a dog, with a slightly domed head, thick muzzle and wide-set eyes. These deep black eyes are gentle in expression and convey a wealth of emotion. This attractive dog has a pleasing conformation that is well muscled with a straight back, deep chest and thick neck. Their legs are straight and strong, proving that this dog is quick on its cat feet. At birth, Mountain View Cur puppies are usually born without dewclaws, and those born with them have them removed almost immediately. They have another characteristic and that's the natural short tail they're born with. Those with longer tails normally docked them a few days after birth. The coat is a double layer, the undercoat is soft and fine and the outer layer is rough or smooth. Colors vary from yellow, solid black, brindle, black and brindle. This handsome dog often has white patches on its muzzle, chest and feet.

Temperament of the Mountain View Cur
The Mountain View Cur is both courageous and eager to please. They are highly intelligent and in demand for search and rescue, drug control and law enforcement. With its highly trained nose capable of following a trail even when a little old, and its control and willingness to listen and obey commands, this dog seems to have a bright future. This breed is ideal as a pet because they love children and protect both family and property. They are not above having fun with children and playing fun, energetic games. Hiding from this dog will never work, they'll follow you in an instant. The Mountain View Cur is affectionate and loyal, and adapts to many lifestyles, even if apartment living isn't in the cards. The Mountain View Cur likes plenty of room to roam, and a well-fenced yard is the minimum requirement. A house in the country is even better. This dog likes to have a job, he likes to feel useful and please his master. It's a handsome dog with a serious work ethic, happy and attentive at home.

Needs and activities of the Mountain View Cur
When you talk about a dog with a job, the Mountain View Cur immediately comes to mind. They like to be useful and feel important if they have a task to do. An active family is ideal for this busy dog, and if you live in the country, well, even better. You'll have a loyal and devoted running or walking companion, even if they might get distracted by a provocative scent. But, this dog always checks in with their owner, even on the trail. They love to play games and enjoy playing in the water on a hot day, but they're just as happy to go for a walk with you to the nearest park. Kind, gentle and affectionate, they are also strong and protective. This new breed of dog has proved its worth in the working environment and at home, and is ready for a promising future.

Maintenance of the Mountain View Cur
Grooming the Mountain View Cur is an easy task for any owner. All this dog needs is a weekly brushing to remove any traces of dust or hair. There's no need to bathe them frequently, and if you do, be sure to use a gentle dog shampoo to keep the natural oils in their skin. This natural oil protects your dog in all weathers, so it's important to maintain it. Rubbing with a soft, damp cloth will keep your dog looking his best. The usual essentials of dog grooming, such as brushing teeth, checking ears, and cleaning if necessary, and trimming nails should be carried out weekly, as required. The Mountain View Cur doesn't need anything else, but it's sure to please him, and if you like him, they'll like him.
