| The American Bull Molosser is a companion and protection dog. It is a loyal, courageous, medium to large-sized dog with very high intelligence, natural ability, good looks, a stable working temperament and the desire to please its master. The American Bull Molosser is easily trained and integrates well into a stable family environment, provided the puppy has been properly raised and given an adequate foundation. Professional training is suggested for new owners. The breed doesn't deserve to be defeated, but requires its owners to show common sense and responsibility, like any other breed. Once mature, the American Bull Molosser will provide companionship and security for the family or individual who has taken the time to educate themselves and applied that education, guaranteeing the responsibility of one of the most loyal and competent guardians of our time. The American Bull Molosser needs an owner who is firm, yet calm, confident and consistent. They need to know what is expected of them, the rules to follow and limits as to what they are and are not allowed to do. The aim of training and keeping this dog successfully is to achieve pack leader status. It's a natural instinct for a dog to have an order in his pack. When we humans live with dogs, we become their pack. The whole pack cooperates under one leader; the lines are clearly defined. You and all other humans must be higher in the pecking order than the dog. That's the only way your relationship can be a success. The American Bull Molosser was developed using mainly base/background dogs acquired from the Hines Bulldog, American Bandogge, German Rottweiler, Neapolitan Mastiff, South African Boerboel, Hermes Olde Bulldog, Cane Corso and Dogue De Bordeaux. Although the American Bull Molosser is capable of multitasking and performs well as a service dog in a number of areas, its founder believes the breed is most valuable as a pet protector and breeds specifically for the traits most desired for this application. The American Bull Molosser will benefit from daily brushing, but this is not necessary. Nails will need trimming once a month. Teeth may need periodic cleaning and should be carried out by the vet. Bathing your American Bull Molosser indoors with a mild shampoo once a month will suffice. Flea and tick prevention is recommended, as is heartworm prevention. We recommend that you consult a qualified veterinarian before cleaning or treating your dog with any products. A clean, stable and healthy environment is necessary, whether in an apartment in the city or an estate in the Hamptons. A fenced backyard is suggested but not required, although it may be necessary in many communities. Good nutrition from a quality diet, regular veterinary visits and care and exercise is essential to promote health in all breeds of dog. Crate training is also suggested for puppies and young dogs. A brisk walk twice a day combined with some fetch and obedience training will be enough to keep your American Bull Molosser in good physical and mental condition. You can expect to share 10 to 14 years of quality time with your American Bull Molosser, provided you follow the advice of your breeder and veterinarian.
