The Hunters Creek Feist is a small-to-medium-sized American hunting dog (weighing approximately 7–14 kg and standing 25–46 cm at the withers), renowned for its boundless energy, agility, and ability to tree small game (such as squirrels). Belonging to the "Mountain Feist" family, these dogs are extremely loyal and intelligent; they require plenty of daily exercise to prevent them from becoming destructive out of boredom. Fast and active, they tend to tree their prey rather than capturing it directly, all while keeping it in sight. They need intense daily physical activity (running, games of fetch, hiking) and excel in agility disciplines or tracking games. When bored, these dogs can become noisy and destructive; they therefore need a home that allows them to channel their inexhaustible energy and tremendous work ethic. Beyond their hunting talents, Hunters Creek Feists are incredibly loyal and form deep bonds with their owners. Highly intelligent and curious, they are a real pleasure to train. Easy to train, they excel in various dog sports, which provide an excellent outlet for their energy and athletic abilities. These hardy dogs have a lifespan of approximately 13 to 18 years. They may not be suitable for households with small pets (such as cats or rabbits) and should be kept on a leash in unfenced areas. Hunters Creek Feists are known for their intelligence, loyalty, and strong work ethic. They excel at tasks requiring problem-solving and adaptability, making them versatile companions for a variety of activities. They may be prone to excessive barking if they do not get enough exercise. Although not recognized by the AKC, they are recognized by the UKC and the Continental Kennel Club.
