This breed is also known as			Smithfield Collie Smithfield Shepherd Tasmanian Dog

The Smithfield is a sheepdog. It is a large, sturdy dog of the collie type. It can be black, gray, or red with a white collar, or entirely white. It always has floppy ears and a shaggy coat on its body, head, and legs. There are two varieties: one with a naturally short tail and the other with a longer tail. It was used for herding livestock in southeast England, particularly at Smithfield Market in London. Although this breed is considered extinct and was never recognized by major kennel clubs before its extinction, dogs of a similar type are shown under the same name in Tasmania, Australia. The Smithfield was introduced to Australia during the colonial era. It was a practical dog, used for working in the markets of Smithfield, London. It stands between 46 and 53 cm at the withers and has a shaggy coat. This breed is poorly documented and, although not recognized as a purebred by the Australian National Canine Council, it is exhibited at the Campbell Town dog show in Tasmania. Many older farmers still own them, as well as breeders keen to preserve the original bloodlines and ensure the breed's future. Even though it is not officially registered, it generates enough interest and is well-accepted in Tasmania to justify holding this event.
