A brief presentation of the Wirelsh Terrier |
| The Wirelsh Terrier is a hybrid mix created by crossing the Wire Fox Terrier with the Welsh Terrier. This breed is active and independent. Many people prefer them as guard dogs, as they will alert you immediately if they hear an unfamiliar noise or see a stranger. He's a fearless little ball of energy who loves to play. As adults, they measure between 30.5 and 51 centimetres at the shoulders and weigh between 7 and 9 kilos. Like all Terriers, you need to be careful if you have small pets, as a Terrier will often chase them away. This breed is highly intelligent. Its active personality makes it an excellent playmate for children. |

A little of the Wire Fox Terrier |

| The Wire Fox Terrier and the Fox Terrier Smooth were originally considered one and the same breed, but in the 1800s these dogs became two separate breeds. The breed was originally developed to hunt foxes. The dogs hunted foxes out of their dens. Hunters used the dog's short, docked tail as a handle to grab and pull it from the fox's den. Queen Victoria and her son, King Edward VII, both owned this breed. In the 1930s, the dog breed gained in popularity, but in recent years it has suffered a serious decline. It's thought that the breed isn't very popular because it's difficult to keep a Terrier with a strong hunting instinct in an urban household. The Wire Fox Terrier has received more awards for excellence at the Westminster Kennel Club dog show than any other breed in history. The breed was first recognized by the American Kennel Club in 1885 and classified in the Terrier group. | ||

| The Welsh Terrier was bred in Wales to hunt badgers, foxes and other rodents without fear. Research indicates that the Welsh Terrier is one of the oldest breeds to have been bred in the UK. Sadly, in the UK today, the breed is in serious danger of extinction. There are currently just 300 dogs registered in the country each year. The breed was officially recognized by the American Kennel Club in 1888 and included in the Terrier group. |

Appearance of the Wirelsh Terrier |
| Wirelsh Terriers are generally two-tone, with a harsh coat, floppy ears and a medium-length tail. Their paws are small and tight. The dog's ears droop longer than those of related breeds. His eyes and nose are both dark, like little buttons. He sheds very little. His face is generally light brown and his body black or a mixture of brown and black colors. He has an alert expression and a happy face. Many people consider his scruffy appearance adorable. |

| Wirelsh Terriers are lively, active and playful. He loves to go to the dog park and take a daily walk. This little fellow is an ideal watchdog, as he'll bark if he hears unusual noises or encounters a stranger. Although his hunting instinct isn't as intense as his parents', he loves to try and chase small animals, and you need to be very careful when walking him, as he'll bolt after a squirrel or other small animal. His clownish personality and independence make him a fun addition to any family. He's particularly fond of children. |

| Wirelsh Terriers are active dogs. He loves a daily walk and usually enjoys a fun run at the dog park. This active Terrier is an excellent dog for children, as he really enjoys playing with them. He can live in an apartment if he gets enough daily exercise and playtime. This little fellow's Terrier instinct comes to the fore when he's around small animals. You must therefore be very careful with small animals, as he will chase them and bark at them. If he's in a fenced-in yard, you need to keep an eye on him, as he knows how to dig and may go out in search of thrills. |
Maintenance of the Wirelsh Terrier |
| The Wirelsh Terrier's coat is rough and a little tousled. They benefit from daily brushing. Many owners choose to bathe their dogs every two weeks to eliminate doggy odors. His ears can be cleaned once a year to remove any build-up of earwax. A dog's nails are usually naturally filed by its abundant exercise, but if not, you'll need to trim them to keep them to a manageable size. Many small dogs suffer from gum disease later in life. Brushing once a week can help prevent the unpleasant oral problems sometimes encountered later in life. |
