The Leauvenaar is an extinct dog breed that once existed near the Belgian city of Leuven. It was reportedly a large black sheepdog that also served as a guard dog. It accompanied wagons along the roads, ensuring their safe passage from one point to another without any loss of cargo. Little information is available about the Leauvenaar, but it is often considered the ancestor of the Schipperke and the Groenendael.
