The Tesem was a hunting dog from ancient Egypt. Now extinct, its ancestry is believed to have extended further south, as far as Nubia and the Horn of Africa. The term "Tesem" referred to a type of hunting dog, considered an ancestor of modern breeds such as the Saluki and the Pharaoh Hound. The extinction of these dogs makes it impossible to know their temperament precisely. We can only assume that they were formidable hunters, loyal, and excellent companions. The Tesem was of average intelligence among dogs.
