| The term « Atsuma dog » most likely refers to the historical Atsuma lineage of the Hokkaido Ken (also known as the Ainu Ken), one of the six native dog breeds of Japan. The Atsuma lineage is considered extinct as a pure line; only the Chitose lineage survived the consequences of World War II and other demographic crises. It may not be completely extinct. |
