This breed is also known as			Han Dynasty Dog

The Han dynasty dog is a breed that existed in ancient China. These dogs were common during the Han dynasty, a period when they flourished between 25 and 220 AD. Although rarely mentioned in literature, they have left a lasting mark on art and sculpture.

It is believed that the Han dynasty dog served to guard homes and properties; they were tethered outside to deter intruders. Effigies of these dogs are found in tombs, continuing to protect their deceased masters.

In appearance, the Han dynasty dog resembles a Shar-Pei or a short-haired Chow-Chow. Both of these breeds may be its modern descendants, as might the Chongqing dog, a lesser-known Chinese breed.
